| I've gone through these so far, and they've been very useful:

| Although I am a computer programmer by trade, not a graphic designer, learning graphic design has become increasingly necessary. My supervisors have emphasized over and over that they need people who can create graphics. If I want to continue with web design, I need to learn to do more complicated things with a graphics editing program.
I would actually love to learn how to make awesome graphics. I've been playing with Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop since I was in junior high. My only problem is how to learn how to make the kinds of images that I want. I've decided to use GIMP because it is a free and powerful tool, but which also makes things more difficult because I'm not used to the interface.
My strategy to start will be to just go through as many GIMP tutorials that I can find. At the same time I will continue to look for tutorials specifically emphasizing the style of art that I am interested in.

| It's kind of weird writing in both a blog and on my facebook notes, but oh well...
Moving has been one hell of an experience. It started off with lots and lots and lots of packing. Granted, we didn't do as much of it as we should have in the week before but there was still just SO much stuff. Then there was checkout...that reminded me of why I kept on getting roommates. I didn't want to have to deal with all the checkout bullshit. I'm not getting my full security deposit back. I have to pay for 9 days that I'm not living in the apartment, and I had to take the assistant manager's condescending, barely-disguised insults regarding just about everything. Lawrence told me to not worry about it, but I hate people like her where everything that comes out of their mouth is negative and even the positive things end up being criticisms of others.
After that we had to drive the truck down to L.A., after getting barely any sleep. We took about an hour in and picked up food at an In-N-Out. The drive down was pretty uneventful, but I kept on falling asleep. We met Lawrence's parents at the apartment, and we spent the rest of the night getting everything off the truck. That took until 12-1 am, after which they took us out for dinner at Garden Cafe. The next day Lawrence and I spent the entire day unpacking. That night I got to meet his brother for the first time! It's kind of intimidating talking to him, but he seems like a nice guy. He said that Lawrence and I should file for domestic partnership for the benefits, like medical insurance coverage, etc.
It's actually kind of nice to have alone time right now. On top of the stress of the move has been the stress of being around Lawrence's family, basically total strangers, in what is now my home. It's nice to be able to change into my comfy clothes, and just lounge around and relax, listening to some soothing trip hop. Man, there's so much to take care of though. I need to dig through the boxes we haven't unpacked to find my checkbook for direct deposit of my paycheck at work.
I found the recreation room, it looks very nice and has a pool table in it. I went to the apartment complex's fitness center tonight to run on the precor. It was pretty nice but not very big. However, the whole time I was there (about an hour) I saw only 4 other people so it was by no means crowded. The funniest thing happened on my walk back. The fitness center is in the other building, so I have to walk through the courtyard and past lots of shops. At night, there are a few wine bars open until late in the courtyard so there are usually people around. Here I am, sweaty and just wanting to get back into my apartment, when I hear these guys talking loudly behind me on the escalator. One of them walks up to me, and asks me if I want to go with them to the bar. Apparently it's a really nice bar, and he's not drunk, but his friends back there like to drink, and it would be lots of fun, blah blah. Lol, so I got hit on/invited out by a drunk guy out carousing with his friends. At least he was a young and professional looking.
Yikes, I better get ready for work tomorrow before I get too sleepy! | | |
| omg omg omg, i have a start date...but it's Monday, June 4th. I was planning on moving my stuff down to L.A. on Sunday June 3rd. ARGHGHGHGHGHGGHHH | | |
| Soon I will have a start date for my new job. They've finally recieved my pre-employment medical results, so now it just needs to be reviewed. Meanwhile, I feel like I've been going out a lot. There have been several dinners with my coworkers since both me and another coworker are leaving after June 1. He's moving to Macau, and I'm moving to Los Angeles, so we won't be able to hang out after that. Sunday was also my friend Tak's CS graduation. We're also going to have dinner again next Monday before I leave. Then, Becky is actually going to be in the Bay Area next week, so hopefully I'll get to go have dinner with her. I was going to go get dinner with JoJo, but I didn't get a chance before she went on vacation and I don't know when she's back. | | |
